KT-S Electric Fish Scaler

Construction of the KT-S

The metal scaling head is protected by a metal splash guard, and spins on ball-bearings. All external parts are waterproof. The cable casing has 4 layers, 2 of steel, one of insulation, and a rubber outer cover.

The motor is housed in an internally grounded stainless steel box with an on/off switch, securely insulated and protected from spray. Because it is internally grounded, the KT-S does not require an external ground. It can be plugged into a wall socket that is grounded or not, and it comes equipped with the proper plug for the destination country.

Get the Right Spindle

The KT-S is shipped with the Standard scaling head (spindle) as shown. However, you should also get the spindle that is best for the fish you are scaling. Using the right spindle will greatly increase production.

Maintenance

Normally, there is very little maintenance required of the KT-S other than lubricating the drive shaft monthly and replacing it when it breaks. All hand fish scalers have a rotating metal drive shaft that wears over time and breaks due to metal fatigue or too much pressure. Normally, a drive shaft will last between 10-12 months, but it can break sooner.

We recommend having a spare on hand so you do not have down time when it does. When it breaks it is easily replaced. Follow this DRIVE SHAFT and/or CASING REPLACEMENT GUIDE, which will also show you how to replace the casing if necessary.

To get the most out of the shaft, it should be lubricated when installed and then monthly in use. We recommend this Food Grade Super Lube Grease available from Grainger.

Note on Voltage:

We recommend that you order the voltage that is in general use in your country. For countries in North America, it is 110v. For most other countries it is normally 220v. It generally comes with the plug used in your country.

• Heads: Solid steel 2.25" scaling surface with shield that surrounds all but the area in contact with the fish. Scaling head is ball-bearing driven with clog-free scaling blades. It is very important that you get the right head for the species you are scaling.
  • Standard head is used for most fish. THE STANDARD HEAD COMES WITH THE SCALER. OTHER HEADS ARE OPTIONAL.
  • Diamond head has sharper edges and is preferred by many for all fish.
  • Salmon head has cutouts for slime.
  • Large scale head is used for fish with very large scales.
  • Standard and Salmon Long heads are available for bigger, flat sided fish. They are 4.5" long.
  • Heads can be easily replaced by removing one screw, changing head, and replacing screw.
• Drive Cable: The drive cable is either 59" (150 cm) or 78" (200 cm) long and is laminated with 2 layers of steel, one of insulation and a rubber cover.
